Bowers named Wyoming Pharmacist of the Year

PINEDALE – Pharmacist Kylah Bowers, PharmD, RPh, leads by example.
As the owner of Altitude Drug in Pinedale and Big Piney, Bowers demonstrates a strong work ethic, determination, and excellence in patient care, wrote pharmacy technician Heidi Gay in a nomination letter to the Wyoming Pharmacy Association (WPhA).
Gay worked at Altitude Drug for years and detailed Bowers’ dedication to patients and coworkers. Bowers explained the ins and outs of every prescription to each person walking through the door, Gay said.
WCW Names Bowers Winner of Inaugural Woman Entrepreneur Award

The Wyoming Council for Women (WCW) is pleased to announce that Kylah Bowers who owns Altitude Drug in Pinedale, WY is the winner of the inaugural Woman Entrepreneur Award.
The Women’s Council received nominations from around the state including Jackson, Gillette, Lander, Cheyenne, Buffalo, Rock Springs, Casper, and Wheatland. According to committee chair, Jan Torres, “It was a great state-wide pool and the scoring was very close. It was so rewarding to see the array of unique women-owned businesses from around the state.”
The Council developed the Woman Entrepreneur Award to recognize and support woman-owned businesses in Wyoming and increase attention to the contribution women make to Wyoming’s economy through unique, creative enterprises. Women in Wyoming who own businesses in operation for at least three years, generate a minimum of $5,000 annually, and whose products provide a quantifiable service were eligible for nomination.
Kylah Bowers is a Wyoming native and received both her Bachelor’s degree and Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Wyoming. After working for a chain pharmacy for two years, she realized that she wanted to be part of a different kind of practice, one that put relationships at the center of the work. She opened Altitude Drug in Pinedale in 2009 and is proud to be Sublette County’s only locally owned and operated pharmacy providing “pharmaceutical care at new heights.”
According to Jennifer Zook, who nominated Kylah Bowers for this honor, “Kylah not only provides quality service and products to Sublette County, but she also gives back to the community through financial support of multiple organizations and events as well as through volunteer time.”

The Wyoming Council for Women is a 13-member council with representation from each of the nine judicial districts, four at-large members and one ex-officio member from the Wyoming Business Council. The Women’s Council has four areas of focus: employment practices, educational opportunities, home and community, and legal rights and responsibilities. Bowers named Wyoming Preceptor of the Year

The University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy awarded two Preceptors of the Year for the 2016-2017 academic year. Pharmacist Kylah Bowers, who precepts students at Altitude Drug in Pinedale, Wyoming was one of the award recipients. Kylah was interviewed to understand how she earns the respect and admiration of her students, so other preceptors can gain ideas on ways to educate and motivate students while on rotation.
Kylah received her PharmD from the University of Wyoming in 2009. She worked for a chain pharmacy for two years after graduation. Kylah knew she wanted more involvement in patient care and decided to open her own pharmacy, Altitude Drug, in 2011. Kylah has been preceptoring students for six years at Altitude Drug where it has proved to be highly successful for both her students and her pharmacy.
